Choose Your Option

Free Solar = No payments, no credit check.

Ownership = Invest or finance for complete control and future income.

Installation

We handle everything, from installation to ongoing maintenance. If your system overproduces, Pepco pays you for the surplus.

Which Option Is Right For Me?

Ownership

The difference between owning a solar system and doing the free program is that when you own your system, you get all the government incentives via the SREC program. In the free program, you don’t, that’s what enables it to be free. To own the system you either have to pay cash up front or finance the cost by taking out a loan. Financing generally requires credit scores of 650+. Return on investment is expected by year 4.

Free Solar

DC’s Free Solar Program is the most popular program right now. Most homes qualify, there’s no up front costs, no subsequent costs, no monthly payment, no loans. Free means free. The only variable house to house is whether there is sufficient unshaded space on your roof to fit enough panels to cover your current electricity usage.

Community Solar

Certain low income households may qualify for discounted electricity without having solar panels installed on the property. Households that are using Government assistance programs will qualify. Qualifying applicants will have their electricity sourced from one of the district's solar farms and receive a discount on their electric bill of up to 50%. Not all homes qualify and the offer is based on current availability of new solar farm capacity limits, which fill quickly. Check with our consultants about current availability in your neighborhood.

Why Choose Us?

Formerly residents of DC had to apply through a lengthy complicated process to qualify for Free Solar. There were income requirements and other restrictions, that only enabled certain households to qualify. In the past couple years, new funding programs have developed loosening these restrictions. Now all homeowners with sufficient roof space and sun exposure are eligible for free solar.

Imagine the Future

Thanks to the district’s ambitious commitment to renewable energy, DC has the highest government incentives for going solar in the US.  SRECs which stand for Solar Renewable Energy Credits are valued higher in DC than any other state with an SREC program. When you choose free solar, these government incentives pay the costs for the solar equipment, installation, and service. If you choose to own your solar system, you can pay up front or finance the cost and these SREC incentives go directly to you. The average ROI (return on investment) for owning solar in DC is 4 years.
